Week 1...Welcome to the course!

Welcome to the Academic Skills course.

Over the next 7 weeks we will introduce you to the learning strategies that can make a real difference to whether you fulfil your academic potential in higher education. As we will explain when we introduce the course in class this Wednesday (10 June at 09.15), degree-level study poses different challenges to what you will experienced in high school.

During this first week of the course we have a lot to cover as we set the scene and then cover our first two teaching themes: Critical Thinking and Finding Academic Resources. You will also spend important time getting to know the fellow members of your tutorial group, as well as familiarising yourself with the brief for each of the two assessment exercises on the course.

The format for our time together on campus, as well as an overview of the subjects that we will be covering, can be found on the Week 1 Introduction page.

It's going to be a busy - but hopefully enjoyable! - start to the course.
